Nathan Pierce joined the Madison Brass Band in the spring of 2007 and while currently playing soprano cornet, has also played flugelhorn and Bb Bass with the band. He earned his Bachelor of Music Degree in Instrumental Music Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in December of 1998. While at the university, he played in numerous ensembles including the Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, University Band, Brass Choir, and the Trumpet Ensemble. In addition, Nathan was a four-year member of the UW Marching Band.
Nathan is currently the Director of Bands at Milton High School where he conducts the Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Pit Orchestra, and numerous smaller chamber ensembles. He is also director of the 7th Grade Band and gives 7th and 8th grade lessons at Milton Middle School. Before his appointment at Milton, Nathan taught at DeForest High School for three years, Baldwin-Woodville High School for five years, and in the Weston School District for two years. Nathan keeps active in the competitive marching band venue and has been on the staff of numerous competitive high school marching bands over the past 11 years including Sauk Prairie High School, Columbus High School, and Stoughton High School. He has been selected for Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers three times.
In addition to playing in the Madison Brass Band, Nathan plays Eb cornet in the 1st Brigade Band, and trumpet and tuba in the Madison Wind Ensemble. He has previously played both tenor horn and Bb cornet in the Sheldon Theatre Brass Band in Red Wing, MN. Nathan currently serves on the board of directors of the Madison Brass Band and the University of Wisconsin School of Music Alumni Association.
In addition to playing with the band, Nathan has done several arrangements for the ensemble.
Nathan currently lives in DeForest, WI with his wife Amy and their dog Bucky.
