Matt started on the cornet in the Salvation Army Band in Oshkosh, WI at the age of four. With two scales ‘in hand’ he sat in the back row and tried not to make his father, mother, brother or sister angry!
Matt continued his cornet/trumpet playing throughout his school years and performed with the Kids from Wisconsin for two summers. Highlights from those performances include the International Kiwanis Convention in Atlantic City, two summers on the main stage at the Wisconsin State Fair – sharing the stage with Sha-Na-Na, Loggins and Messina, Carol Channing, Count Basie and The Lawrence Welk Show among others.
Off to the UW-Madison to study with Don Whitaker and then John Aley. Matt performed with the UW Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble and various chamber music groups. Highlights include the Bach B minor Mass, Carmina Burana and Verdi’s Requiem under Robert Fountain and performing in the Lincoln Center in NYC.
Matt has performed under the leadership of many great conductors in the wind band,orchestra and choir genres including H. Robert Reynolds, Eugene Corporon, Frederick Fennell, Robert Fountain, Catherine Comet and Clyde Roller.
Recent performances include Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with the Wisconsin Chamber Choir, the Madison Brass Band, Luther’s Brass and a Perfect Fifth Brass Quintet.
Matt lives in Oregon, WI with his awesome wife Tracy, two beautiful children Joe and Linde, no dogs and no cats.
